Stripe Rust Susceptible Varieties - Wye Variety Trials
Dr. Kleczewski has rated the Wye Variety trials for stripe rust. The following varieties were susceptible:
- Dynagro Shirley
- SY 547
- FS 865
- Dynagro 9692
- SY Viper
- MAS 425
- USG 3197
- MBX 15-E-229
- SS 8530
Stripe rust ratings are also included by some companies and should be reliable.
If you have fields with any of these varieties planted you should check for the presence of the pathogen. It will likely be detected in foci within the field and appear light yellow/orange in color from the field edge. Orange to yellow pustules, often arranged in strips, are likely to be found in the mid to upper canopy. These will rub off on your hand, leaving a rusty residue. Resistant varieties should not be at risk for significant disease development, but still should be scouted for disease presence.
