Managing strawberry Neopestalotiopsis- Avoiding unhealthy plug plants is key
Neopestalotiopsis (NeoP) has emerged as a significant threat to strawberry production in the U.S., largely linked to infected nursery plants. The disease can affect all plant parts, leading to leaf spots, crown rot, plant decline, and reduced yields—though fruit rot is less common in the Mid-Atlantic. Field trials show that cultivar choice and plant health at planting are critical, as fungicides offer limited control. Management efforts should focus on sourcing clean, healthy plug plants and selecting more tolerant cultivars, since infections often originate in nurseries and persist after transplanting.
