University of Maryland Agricultural Law Specialist to Lead Research into Risk Mitigation for Commercial Hemp Producers
Senior faculty specialist in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics Paul Goeringer is leading a team of researchers and Extension specialists in an analysis of risk management tools and the development of educational outreach materials for small and medium-sized farmers interested in transitioning to growing industrial hemp.
Garden Gateway Into The Past
Throughout 2020, University of Maryland Extension Master Gardener Sherry Frick worked with the Jane Gates Heritage Foundation to design and build educational gardens for the historic home-turned-museum and community center. During the installation, Frick and Foundation President Sukh Gates, discovered a legacy plant on the property, unlocking clues and opening a gateway into the life of Jane Gates, a previously enslaved woman who bought the Cumberland, Md. property for $1,400 (equivalent to $29,000 today) in 1871.

Extension educators in nutrition, wellness and youth development collaborated to create a new mindfulness instruction guide. The new Mindfulness Activity Guide for Adults, is a full educational program designed to teach people about reducing stress and maintaining a healthy well-being, providing the breadth and depth for those interested in teaching and instruction, as well as incorporating those techniques into their everyday lives.
