Two species of aphids cluster and feed on the roots of vegetable plants, mainly beans, and to a lesser extent, corn. Damage is rarely severe, although in some cases gardeners do notice stunting and low yields. Examine the roots of stunted bean plants for signs of root aphids. Remove and destroy infested plants. Till the soil prior to planting and rotate susceptible crops.
