Who doesn’t look forward to “SNACK TIME?”  Snacks are like “mini meals” and are a great way to take a break and re-energize between breakfast, lunch and dinner. Choosing a healthy snack can satisfy hunger, provide extra nutrients and prevent overeating.  Hearty snacks provide fuel and “brain food” and are especially important for kids who are busy learning and playing.

Enjoying regular healthy snacks begins with some creativity and planning. Check out these kid-friendly snack ideas below. Plan to try one or more, and then get busy snacking!

The Crowd PleaserTerrific Trail Mix - This fun and convenient trail mix can be made from a variety of popular snacks you may already have on-hand. Trail mixes can include pretzels, popcorn, dried fruits (like raisins or cranberries) or even whole grain cereal!   Find a combination you like and mix together for a twist on an ordinary snack.  Place the mix in baggies for a “grab and go” option, or toss together in a large bowl to share during a playgroup event or when hosting kids from around the neighborhood.

Crafts in the Kitchen - Ants on a Log -  Making this fun and tasty snack with the kids is a great way to get them excited about helping in the kitchen.  Spreading nut butters allows little ones to practice their food preparation skills.  And, sprinkling on a variety of colorful dried fruit allows for the extra fun of making choices and being creative!
