About great blue lobelia

Perennial Forb
Lobelia Family

Maryland Distribution: Wet meadows throughout the state.

Height: 1-4 feet
Blooms: Blue to violet; August - October

Garden Use & Maintenance: Rain gardens, moist or wet meadows, perennial beds. The only way a flower this beautiful could be essentially forgotten by home gardeners is by having a sister like cardinal flower. This stunning species is purportedly a little longer-lived and little more amenable to average soil moisture than it's redder cogener.

Wildlife: Attracts swallowtail butterflies and bumble bees.
