Spring has sprung and the 2024 Maryland Farmers’ Market season has begun!

After a long winter of eating fruits and veggies that have been shipped to local stores from all over the county, there is nothing as tasty as locally grown, farm fresh produce.  The best place to find fresh, local produce is at your local farmers’ market.

Today’s farmers’ markets are not only for a place to find produce.  Many vendors sell other food items like pasta, bread, meat, milk, and eggs.  Sometimes you’ll find vendors that sell specialty items like homemade soaps and pet treats, while others are there to entertain you with music and singing.

Farmers’ markets have become a family destination.  Before your next visit, download a copy of the Farmers' Market Scavenger Hunt & Shopping List.  Use the What's in Season Guide to help you fill out your shopping list.  Take along the scavenger hunt sheet, and work together as a family to find all of the items at the market.  Reading a book about the farmers’ market is a wonderful way to excite young ones. Rico Eats a Rainbow, Meet Me at the Farmers’ Market, or Max Goes to the Farmers’ Market are all good options.

Not sure where your local farmers’ market is located? No problem.  Click the 2024_Maryland Farmers' Market Online Directory to find a market near you. Remember that some farmers accept SNAP, WIC, FVB, and FMNP benefits.  The farmers’ market is the perfect place to make use of your benefits and stock up fresh local foods. Check the farmers’ market directory to find out which markets accept the different benefits. If you don’t have a farmers’ market nearby, keep an eye out for local produce sold at a farm stand near you.
