There are many scholarships available to 4-H members.  Below you will find a list of some scholarships that are available.  There are some administered by the Howard County UME Office and others from independent organizations.  The information below is provided as a resource to our 4-H members.  Please be sure to pay special attention to deadline and submission details.

2024 Howard County 4-H All Stars Scholarships - Up to six (6) $500 scholarships plus (2) $1,000 scholarships may be awarded to a current or former Howard County 4-H member enrolled at an accredited 2 year or 4 year college, university with the intent to obtain an associate, bachelor, graduate degree or a technical school. Scholarship may be won a maximum of 4 times.  Given in memory of George Bowman, Calvin Murray & Beth Coles and in honor of Charles & Judy Iager.  Applications are due July 1st.

2024 Turner/Olson Scholarships - These scholarships are in memory of two Howard County 4-H members, Jennifer Turner and Jennifer Olson, who tragicially died in separate car accidents.  Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to a current or former Howard County 4-H member enrolled at an accredited 4-year or 2-year college, university, or community college with intent to obtain a Bachelor's or upper level degree.   Applications are due to the Howard County Extension Office by July 1st.

Maryland 4-H Foundation Scholarships:  The application for the 2023 Maryland 4-H Foundation Scholarships are open. Applications are due by June 15, 2023 https://www.mymaryland4hfoundation.com/how-we-give/scholarships

Howard County Farm Bureau Scholarship and Jackie Bauer Memorial Scholarship - The Howard County Farm Bureau will offer one $1,000.00 scholarship for someone in the 14 to 16 age range and another $2,000.00 scholarship to someone in the 17 to 19 age range. The 17-19 scholarship will be partially funded by Farm Bureau and partially funded by the Jackie Bauer Memorial Scholarship fund. To be eligible for the 17 to 19 scholarship, they would either need to be a current HCFB member OR a current or former 4-H or FFA member. The 14 to 16 scholarship is open to HCFB members only.

To apply, students must return the application form and write an essay. The essay is to be written on:

"What components are necessary in a successful Agriculture classroom? "

They would guide the winners to use the money for school and or 4-H/FFA projects. The deadline for applications and essays is April 1,
2022.  The Scholarships will be awarded at their annual Legislative Dinner. All decisions on the winner will be made by the Howard County Farm Bureau Board of Directors. Essays are to be written in number 12 font and be no longer than 2 pages with one inch margins.

Howard County Fair Scholarship - Each year, the Howard County Fair Association offers scholarships to qualified individuals to assist with their educational expenses.  Applications are due on Saturday, August 12th by 6:00 p.m.

Howard County 4-H All Stars Scholarships - Up to six- $500 scholarships and two $1,000 scholarships are offered by the Howard County 4-H All Stars.   Completed applications are due July 1st.

Out of State Trips Scholarship - The Howard County 4-H Foundation, Inc. makes scholarships available to Howard County 4-H members selected for Out of State Trips. Scholarships will be awarded up to $250.  Completed applications can be sent to the Howard County Extension Office.

Jered Harrison 4-H/FFA Memorial Scholarship - Jered was an active member in the 4-H program and the South Carroll FFA. He showed beef steers, sheep and swine. Sadly, he lost his life in a farming accident at the young age of 26. This scholarship has been established in his memory to provide opportunity for other young 4-H and FFA members.   Applications are due July 15, 2023.

Maryland Grain Producers Scholarship -The Maryland Grain Producers Association will be utilizing $10,000 of Maryland grain checkoff funds to support four $2,500 scholarships. Students must be a resident of Maryland and attending a secondary education institute working towards a degree in agriculture.The applicant or an immediate family member, must be a member of the Maryland Grain Producers Association, and have not received a checkoff refund in the past twelve months. Applications are due May 1st and recipients are expected to attend the Maryland Commodity Classic on July 23rd at the Queen Anne's County 4-H Park in Centreville.

Maryland Sheep Breeders Scholarship - The Maryland Sheep Breeders Association in conjunction with the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival is offering a scholarship in the amount of $1,000.00 to a student who has been accepted or is in the process of applying for continuing education at a college or university, technical school, or vocational school.
