Videos posted Online of Halter and Performance Classes- with placings and references on the same website. Excellent resource!

Videos

Many videos are available, including the following: “Survival of the Fittest” (good starter, covers confirmation and form-to-function); Horse Judging, Parts I-IV; Judging Reining; Judging Working Hunter; Judging Roping; and Showmanship at Halter.

Videos by Jon Wolf, coach of many very successful collegiate judging teams. The videos on the stock-type halter, western pleasure, and reasons might be beneficial.

Search for “Horse Judging.” Several good videos for judging practice by John Pipkin, but they are expensive.

Other Media: Great for beginners!

Breed Resources

Contact the breed associations below to get information on breed standards, etc., for your judging team members. If you tell these folks that you’re getting the material for judging teams, they are generally more than happy to help you. Some associations have videos on Judging Standards for their particular breed (I know that the Morgan and Saddlebred folks do). Most videos you will have to pay for, but you might be able to get a deal! For more breed associations, please visit the Breeds page. At the state level, halter breeds may include but are not limited to the following light breeds. Draft horses may also be used.
