Fusarium Head Blight Risk Assessment Tool
As of when I am writing this article, the risk of Fusarium head blight (FHB) on flowering wheat is very low across most of the region (Figure 1). As wheat approaches flowering, you can use the www.wheatscab.psu.edu risk tool to monitor FHB risk in your area. You can use the menu to select the type of resistance in your wheat variety (if unknown, I suggest choosing “susceptible” or “very susceptible”) and the risk outlook from zero up to 72 hours. This model is historically about 70-75% accurate at predicting FHB outbreaks. With a little bit of moisture and humidity in the coming weeks, the risk could change rapidly.
