UME Nutrient Management Advisors
Note: The MDA recently cut funding for nutrient management plan development through our program. Nutrient management plans will be written privately by consultants or farmers may be certified to write their own nutrient management plan. County advisors will only be in place until 8/31/23, latest, and may leave their posts sooner.

The University of Maryland Extension Nutrient Management Program assists farmers with the Water Quality Act created to protect the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries by applying fertilizers, animal manure, and other nutrient sources in an effective and environmentally sound manner.

CAFO Permit Update
When everyone sent in their NOI (notice of intent) and your CAFO Fee, you also submitted your CNMP (Comprehensive Nutrient Management Plan) and your NMP (nutrient management plan). We (growers) were advised that if nothing changed in your operation, then your CNMP would stay the same. Your NMP, how much litter you will generate over the next 3 years should be updated, and additional information requested such as water shed etc. was filled out and submitted.
