What to Expect from Succession Coordination
Farm Succession Coordination Intake Form
Is your farm business facing an upcoming transition? Transitions take many forms including retirement, changes in family members’ involvement, illness, injury, or death, new enterprises, and more. The best conversations about farm transition begin early!
Farm Transitions can be challenging. Sometimes you need someone who is an expert in managing conflict, breaking through resistance, and helping your family organize their thoughts into a coherent farm transition plan. During a Succession Coordination process, the Coordinator will:
- Meet with all relevant family members to facilitate succession / estate / transition discussion
- Coordinate with outside professionals to provide unbiased information
- Prepare the family to have a successful, efficient meeting with lawyers, lenders, insurance agents, etc.
In addition to family consultations, the Succession Coordinator can connect your business to the wealth of expertise across University of Maryland Extension faculty. UME faculty have expertise across a wide range of topics including urban agriculture, food safety, business planning, small and large farm enterprise, marketing, crop and livestock management and more.
Farm Succession Coordination sessions are free of charge for anyone in the State of Maryland.
