Summer is  a time for warm-weather fun, but when food is limited, it can also be a time of added stress for families. Did you know that children in the State of Maryland are eligible for free summer meals? Schools and community sites who participate in the Summer Food Service Program offer healthy meals and snacks to children and teens 18 and under. This resource helps families by reducing some of the cost and stress of shopping and preparing meals for their children during the summer months.

How does the program work?

Free meals are served  to children who attend summer programs in participating locations. No registration or identification is needed to receive summer meals. Your children can just stop by one of the meal sites to receive in-person meals. Summer meal sites also provide a safe space for kids to spend time with their friends and engage in physical activity.

How do you find out where summer meal sites are located?

Ask your child’s school or inquire through community centers or camp programs to see if they are a participating meal site. To find additional locations, enter your address on this Maryland Summer Meals map or text FOOD to 304-304.  If you are having trouble finding a location near you with the map, click on 2023 Sites in the upper right hand corner for a full listing of sites. Not seeing a site in your area?  Sites are updated each night so check back often!

SNAP benefits also provide families with money for food. To see if you qualify and to apply for benefits, visit the Maryland SNAP program website. Find healthy tips and information by connecting to the Eat Smart Blog
