Women play a key role in food security around the world. They are integrally involved in family agriculture, food acquisition, and the preparation of meals. Although roles vary, the contributions of women in growing, preparing, and selling food are vital to the strength and health of their families and nations.
With proper training and support, women can produce food for the family and sell surplus food for income, thus improving food security and nutrition.
Currently, WIA focuses its efforts on the Afghanistan Agricultural Extension Project (AAEP-II), funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). WIA also leads a small program in Ethiopia, in partnership with Wolkite, Debre Berhan and Bahir Dar Universities, funded by Rotary International.

NCBA CLUSA’s USAID-sponsored Farmer-to-Farmer program sends American farmers and agribusiness professionals on 2-4 week agricultural development assignments, promoting sustainable economic growth and agricultural development worldwide. Volunteer technical assistance from US farmers, agribusinesses, cooperatives, and universities helps smallholder farmers in developing countries improve productivity, access new markets, and conserve environmental and natural resources.
