Washington County
Washington County is located in the Appalachian Mountains, stretching from the Ridge-and-Valley Country in the west to South Mountain in the east. Its rolling hills are home to 151,000+ humans, 40,000 beef cattle, 11,000 dairy cattle, 3,400 hogs, 2,500 sheep and 78,000 laying hens. Our major crops are corn, wheat, soybeans, and alfalfa, and we lead the state in apple production.

The Washington County Agriculture and Natural Resources Extension Educator assists farmers and landowners by providing research-based resources (many free) you can use to improve your home, workplace, and community. This office's programs and services are specifically designed to solve county residents' problems with the latest in best management practices to improve profitability while being sensitive to the environmental impacts on the county's water and soil resources.
As the front door of the University of Maryland, it functions as part of a nationwide network of university extension offices dedicated to providing trustworthy public education and service.

Special annual programs include the Annual Pesticide Recertification and Nutrient Management Training. Certification classes for private pesticide applicators are conducted several times a year.
