Event: Designing and Deploying a Survey

Description: Following the logic model training this session will help in the development of effective survey questions for your Extension Programs. Learn how to craft a survey that will assist you in developing meaningful reports.Topics will include: survey design, developing questions, IRB, and distribution of the survey. Lunch and travel assistance provided.

UME Writing Retreat

We're excited to announce that UME is back with a bang in 2024, hosting not one but two amazing writing retreats. Whether you're a seasoned writer or just starting out. So mark your calendars and join us for one or both of these unforgettable events!

What is a writing retreat? A writing retreat aims to allow educators dedicated writing time to progress any project in a supportive environment. Most of the day is taken up for writing, with brief scheduled discussions to generate solutions to brainstorming, writing problems, developing drafts, and providing feedback.

Objectives: Brainstorming session, Scholarly writing professional development, a minimum of 4 hours dedicated writing time, and networking.

Prework - Take time to review the following to get you in a writing mindset.

"You can edit bad writing, but you can’t edit a blank page."

To prepare:

  • Review prework materials to get in the writing mindset
  • Have an away message so email can be dealt with later
  • Bring nametag, notepads, chargers, mouse, earbuds or headset
  • Conduct internet literature searches to identify like works
  • Print any documents that you want in hardcopy

  • 8:00 - 9:00 - Arrive and breakfast
  • 9:00 - Introductions
  • 9:15 - Professional development
  • 9:45 - Small Group discussion lead by writing mentors
  • 10:10 - One on one (brainstorming, draft reviews) with writing mentors or move directly to writing
  • 10:15 - Writing block
  • Noon - lunc
  • 1:00-3:30 - writing block
