Youth Volunteerism

Volunteering is a wonderful way to give back to the community and develop leadership skills. Whether you need community service hours (SSL) for school or just like to be involved and make a difference in someone else’s life, the Washington County 4-H Youth Development Program wants YOU!

The Washington County 4-H Youth Development Program offers high quality youth programming through our 4-H Club program, as well as, Outreach, School Enrichment and Camp. We are a part of the University of Maryland Extension with a mission to provide education to the residents of Washington County in order to help make real differences in their lives.

Below is a list of upcoming events scheduled to present youth activities and provide opportunities for you to volunteer.

Youth volunteers should:

  • Be interested in working with youth in a facilitator/guide capacity
  • Have a positive attitude and interest in the activity
  • Be willing to learn and adapt “on the job”
  • Be able to follow and give directions to others in a positive manner
  • Be able to demonstrate how to do something
  • Be able and willing to work for the designated time
  • Be able to arrange their own transportation

Adult Volunteers

Become a 4-H Volunteer today and help create life-changing experiences for youth in your community!

4-H Volunteers are a key component of the 4-H program, which focuses on citizenship, leadership, and life skills development using a "learn-by-doing" educational model. With each volunteer comes knowledge, experiences, and skills which can be taught to 4-H youth and shared with the 4-H program.

No matter your background or expertise, you can join the 4-H community.  As a parent, a project leader, or in any other leadership capacity, you can offer your unique talents and perspectives. You decide the level of involvement that fits your skills and schedule, such as:

  • Lead community clubs, school-based or after-school programs and camp settings
  • Serve as chaperone, board member, event judge or camp counselor
  • Create community service opportunities for youth in your area
  • Work with other adults to create fun and exciting programs
