State 4-H Leadership Awards - Trips Announced!

Senior 4-H members from across the state submitted their Portfolios, participated in interviews and wrote an essay to compete for our Maryland 4-H Leadership Trips. CONGRATULATIONS to all of our 4-Hers who participated in the Out of State Trips competition. Your communications skills in writing your essay and responding to the interviews will serve you well in future presentations. The Portfolio is a stepping stone to future resumes - so we applaud each of you!

Three trips will occur this month. Sarah Fielder, Harford County and Lindsay Smith, Cecil County will attend the Virginia 4-H Congress in Blacksburg. Wesley Myrer, Wicomico County will attend the West Virginia 4-H Older Member Camp at Jackson's Mill. Camp Miniwanca, the American Youth Leadership Conference in Shelby Michigan will be the destination of Josiah Manning, Calvert County. Feel free to call on these youth to report on their trips and to encourage other 4-H teens to participate in the Portfolio Program.

The 2013 National 4-H Congress Delegation will represent Maryland in Atlanta, Georgia on Thanksgiving Weekend. Congratulations to Olivia Stilbolt - Anne Arundel County, Brooke Cashman - Baltimore County, Danielle Franc, Noah Miller, Nick Parrish and Katie Grace Weant - Carroll County, Alec Madron - Cecil County, Caitlin Olejnik - Charles County, Elizabeth Galbreath - Harford County, Morin French - Howard County, Elisabeth Kelley - Kent County, Rina Huang and Kara Koster - Montgomery County, Anne-Mare Seward - Queen Anne's County, Charles Sasscer - St. Mary's County, and Megan McCulley - Talbot County.

Congratulations to all of our trip winners. Take time to talk with them about their experiences and encourage more teams to participate. Sixteen counties had participants - we'd like to see every unit have representatives next year. We know we have outstanding 4-H teens in every county/city program in the state!

Special thanks to our State Awards & Recognition Committee for their work in the judging and selection of our winners and especially to Kathy Gordon for all of the paperwork that she managed!
