Event Type:

On August 21st from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., farmers in the Garrett and Allegahny counties area will have an opportunity to get a grasp on the new farm bill programs.  The workshop is sponsored by University of Maryland’s Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics (AREC), University of Maryland Extension (UME), Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA), and USDA – Risk Management Agency.

This Farm Bill Workshop will take place at UME County office in Mt. Lake and will prepare Maryland farmers for their upcoming decisions.

“The new farm bill is complicated and Maryland grain and dairy producers will want to be aware of how to best choose their options using software aids,” said Dr. Howard Leathers, AREC associate professor.  “By attending a workshop, a producer will walk away with a better understanding of the new programs in the farm bill and how these programs could potentially impact their operations,” Leathers said.  Dairy producers, especially, will want to understand how the new Margin Protection Program will impact their decision-making process.
