Potluck dinner - bring a dish to share!

Join us to learn from two operations on Maryland's Mid-Eastern Shore that added CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) to diversify their businesses. Themed tours and discussions will cover marketing choices, CSA management styles, and successes and failures. Our hosts will share their reasons for starting a CSA and how their customer base, growing practices, management, and financials may have differed pre- and post-CSA.

Since 2003, Priapi Gardens operates on 11 acres, including a retail garden center, farm market, and USDA Organic vegetable fields. The business carries a full line of plants including: annuals, perennials, woody plants, USDA Organic vegetable transplants, tropicals, and pond plants. Recently a 50-member organic vegetable CSA was added to their business. The Priapi family takes pride in strong environmental stewardship and protection of the Chesapeake Bay. They like to term their operation and plants as being "Bay Friendly." Priapi Gardens is open year round to the public.

Colchester Farm CSA is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to sustainable agriculture education, fostering community, land stewardship, and improving food access. Currently, the farm has nine buildings, 200+ acres planted with feed grains (wheat, barley, corn and soybeans), ten pesticide-free acres used by the CSA to grow vegetables, and forty more acres transitioning to organic certification. The whole farm is preserved with conservation easements and feeds a 160-member CSA.
