“Grow Anywhere” Gardening Expo in Silver Spring

The Urban Gardening initiative of the Montgomery County Master Gardeners will host a Gardening Expo on Saturday April 30, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Silver Spring Civic Building at Veterans Plaza in downtown Silver Spring. The event, called “Grow Anywhere,” will provide information to local residents on how to make the most of gardening, especially when working in small spaces.

Stations will feature information and hands-on activities on: Creating container gardens, making self-watering containers (Just for kids!), growing herbs, vegetables and microgreens, grasses and ground covers, re-use and re-cycling in the garden, vertical gardening (Moss art and more), creating water gardens for small spaces, designing a sustainable garden, reducing storm water runoff, composting basics, understanding types of soil, and growing healthy houseplants.

Attendees are encouraged to bring samples of diseased plants and questions on pests and good gardening practices to the “Ask a Master Gardener” table, where Master Gardeners will provide help and resources.
