Urban Gardening

Urban Gardening Program – Come Grow with Us!

The Urban Gardening (UG) initiative has been in partnership with Fresh Farms Market in downtown Silver Spring since 2015. This wonderful arrangement helps strengthen our Master Gardener presence among diverse and large populations, while the market venue gives the UG program ready access to a large audience and one with a keen interest in gardening.  We have a booth at the market (Ellsworth Drive in Veterans Plaza - near the Civic Center), one Saturday a month from April to September. One Saturday in October, we have an EXPO event with multiple topics at the Silver Spring library (corner of Fenton St & Wayne Ave).  Many of our visiors leave with a freebie like bulbs to plant, a houseplant to care for, herbs or microgreens to grow, or a hanging pot for a plant.  Monthly UG activities attract both adults and children - on average 100 to 150 people - who stop by to learn about gardening.  For more information, contact Anne Hilliard or Linda Barrett.
