Welcome to the University of Maryland Extension (UME) of Garrett County which is part of a statewide, non-formal education system within the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources of the University of Maryland, College Park. This partnership also includes support from USDA as well as the county government. The Garrett County UME faculty and staff provide a broad range of outreach through workshops, seminars, classes, clinics, newsletters, consultations, and media efforts.

Welcome to the team, Lacie Ashby!
Every new year brings new beginnings and a fresh start. 2023 marks a new chapter in my career, as your 4-H Educator here in Garrett County. For the past 14 years, I worked in Allegany County as the 4-H Educator, however as a resident of Swanton, this new position puts me closer to home. I grew up in Accident and was a member of Oak Hill 4-H Club and North Garrett FFA.
After graduating from Frostburg State University, I was hired by UME in Allegany County. During my time working with Allegany County 4-H, I worked with the clubs, in-school enrichment, afterschool programs, and some camping. My focus areas over my time there included agriculture and animal sciences, youth and adult leadership, volunteerism, and even some work with finance, environment, and healthy living.
I will be transitioning offices during the month of January and we will be planning a date for an informal meet and greet, with details to come.
I am looking forward to meeting everyone, supporting, and growing the 4-H opportunities across Garrett county!
