Howard County Fair

Please be aware that due to COVID-19, there are many changes and things that will be very different for the 2020 Howard County Fair.

Howard County 4-H Fair Indoor Building

  • The Howard County 4-H Indoor Building at the fair will be hosted on a virtual platform.
  • Entries will be submitted through an online portal at  You can submit a video and/or photographs.  The video or photographs are required as part of the entry.
  • Entries will be accepted July 15th through August 1st.
  • All judging will be done on the quality of each entry for premium payouts for this year.   Every exhibit will be judged and placed either Blue, Red, or White quality.
  • 4-Hers to enter into the 4-H Indoor Building Departments and not have to be enrolled in the project areas.    (For example, if you are enrolled in the photography project you will still be able to enter photographs, however, this year you could also enter in any other category in the 4-H Indoor Building you choose.)

Howard County 4-H Fair Contests
Due to the restrictions and guidelines put in place from Maryland 4-H, we will not have any contests during the week of fair.  Contests that will NOT occur include:  Bicycle Contest, New Zoo Revue, Small Pet Contest, Model Horse Show, Special Horse Photography Contest, Judging Contests, Livestock Skillathon, Horsemanship Contest, Sheep Lead, Worm Race, Bowl Contests, etc.

Howard County 4-H Animal Shows
Due to the restrictions and guidelines put in place from Maryland 4-H, we will not have any 4-H animal shows during the fair.

In response to 4-H being unable to host 4-H shows, we understand that the Howard County Fair Board will be holding an in-person event this year.  However, this fair program is not endorsed by Maryland 4-H, as it does not align with the guidelines described by Maryland 4-H. We encourage all of our 4-H families to strongly consider the safety and health of their families if choosing to participate in any independent in-person fair events. The entry system for the youth shows will go through an online portal on the Howard County Fair website at  Entries are open through July 20th.

Howard County 4-H Livestock Sale
The Howard County 4-H Livestock Sale Committee will be hosting a virtual 4-H Online Livestock Sale for Howard County 4-H members.  The sale will begin on Thursday, August 13th starting at 3:00 p.m. and end on Friday evening August 14th.  Several important documents have been created to assist 4-Hers and buyers with information about the online sale.
