We assist county residents with home gardening and landscaping through several approaches.

  • Classes and workshops are presented on a variety of gardening and lawn care issues such as growing vegetables, canning and composting and fertilizing.
  • Technical assistance is available from our horticulture specialist for diagnosing home and landscape pest problems including weeds, insects and recommendations for healthy landscapes using native plantings at our plant clinics and farmers markets
  • Bay Wise certified master gardeners provide information and guidance to help people create healthier gardens and landscapes using sustainable practices.
  • Community Gardens are available in Harford County. For a listing of locations click here.
  • Scholarship 2021. The Master Gardeners of Harford County, part of the University of Maryland Extension, is offering its annual scholarship.  This is a $1,000.00, one time award from the Harford County Master Gardeners to a graduating high school senior who resides in Harford County.  The recipient must be a student who plans to attend an accredited college or university to pursue studies in Agronomy, Botany, City Landscape Planning, Conservation, Entomology, Environmental Science, Forestry, Horticulture, Landscape Design and/or allied subjects.Applications are available in the guidance office of all Harford County Public High Schools or may be obtained by contacting the Harford County Extension Office at 410-638-3255.  Information is also available on the University of Maryland Extension Harford County Website  https://extension.umd.edu/harford-county/home-gardening/mg-activities-information. The completed application must be postmarked by May 7, 2021.  The winning student will be notified by June 4, 2021.  Additionally, applications will be accepted via fax or email.  Fax documents to Joyce Browning, Master Gardener Coordinator at 410-638-3053 or email to jbrowni3@umd.edu

Master Gardeners are county residents who receive extensive horticulture training and commit to be volunteer partners by helping the university educate residents to be better gardeners and improve their environmental stewardship.
