Welcome to the Harford County Master Gardeners web page!

We assist county residents with home gardening and landscaping through several approaches.

  • Classes and workshops are presented on a variety of gardening and lawn care issues such as growing vegetables, canning and composting and fertilizing.
  • Technical assistance is available from our horticulture specialist for diagnosing home and landscape pest problems including weeds, insects and recommendations for healthy landscapes using native plantings at our plant clinics and farmers markets
  • Bay Wise certified master gardeners provide information and guidance to help people create healthier gardens and landscapes using sustainable practices.

  • Scholarship 2020. Attention: Harford County High School Seniors The Master Gardeners of Harford County, part of the University of Maryland Extension, awarded the Andrea Case Memorial Scholarship of $1,000.00, to Valarie B. Valerie is a 2020 graduate of Fallston High School.  She is attending The University of Maryland and is pursuing studies in Environmental Science.  In addition to outstanding grades, Valerie was the president her school’s Envirothon and Green School initiatives.  She was a member of the Science National Honors Society during her junior and senior years.  As a senior she volunteered to redo an outdoor classroom at Fallston High School.  This project was part of the school’s Green School certification.  It also enabled Valerie to earn the Gold award, which is the highest achievement within the Girl Scouts.  Valerie had been a Girl Scout since kindergarten.  Valerie is a well-rounded and determined young adult, having participated in numerous clubs and sports throughout her high school career.  In her essay, Valerie wrote, “I hope to work to solve some of the world’s toughest problems and to fight to improve the future of our planet”.
  • Master Gardeners are county residents who receive extensive horticulture training and commit to be volunteer partners by helping the university educate residents to be better gardeners and improve their environmental stewardship.
