Havre de Grace Green Team Community Gardens

HavreDeGrace Community Gardens

Havre de Grace Green Team Community Gardens - The HdG Green Team welcomes you to our four community gardens.  These gardens are made possible through the efforts of volunteer gardeners and the generous support of the City of Havre de Grace, Susquehanna Hose Company, Big House Signs, J. M. Huber Corporation, Allen Fair, and “Citizen Joe” Fiocchi.

The plots are about 10 x 10 feet with a limit of 2 plots per gardener.  The annual fee per plot is $35.00.  Water and Mulch is provided at all sites and deer fencing is provided at the Senaca Avenue and Old Reservoir gardens.

Contact: Carol Zimmerman 410-939-2770 or email the Green Team at hdggreenteam@gmail.com.

  • Market Street 1 and Market Street 2 Community Gardens - Coming by way of St. John St., these two gardens are near the intersection of Congress Ave. where St. John changes to Market St.  In 2012 the Green Team established our first garden on private land made available to them.
Market Street  1 Community Garden is located between a building that formerly housed the SavALot grocery store and a building with Investment Antiques and Collectibles.
Market Street 2 Community Garden, also on private land, was established in 2013 and is located across the street from Market Street 1 between 108 and 130 Market St.
  • Seneca Avenue Community Garden - On Seneca Avenue a couple of blocks off Revolution St. (Rt. 7) is the Seneca Avenue Community Garden.  Located on city-owned land, the Seneca Avenue garden lies across the street from a children’s playground.  The garden was established in 2013. Deer and other wildlife are seen in the area, and the gardeners are experimenting with a dual-fence design to keep animals from the garden.
  • Old Reservoir Community Garden - Coming by way of Rt. 155 to Graceview Dr. and then Quarry Rd., the Old Reservoir Community Garden can be found on city-owned land adjacent to the Community Center.  A short walk from the parking lot through the woods is the flat field that once held the city’s water reservoir.  This garden was established in 2013.  Located in an area frequented by deer, a dual-fence design to keep deer and other animals out of the garden is being used at this site.

About the Havre de Grace Green Team

We are a grass-roots organization devoted to promoting environmentally-friendly practices in our daily community, including four community gardens so that citizens can grow healthy food and benefit the environment through sustainable gardening practices.  For more information visit us on Facebook “Havre de Grace Green Team” or email us at hdggreenteam@gmail.com.  Your donations will be welcome, too!  If you are interested in having a plot in one of our gardens in 2014, send us an email.  Plots will be assigned around March.
