2018 Robotics Open House Flyer~ Everyone Welcome

  • 2018 Maryland State 4-H Robotic Challenge

This workshop is designed for 4-H Educators, Volunteers and Teens interested in mentoring and participating in the 2018 Maryland 4-H Robotics Challenge.  There will be a track for the 4-H LEGO Challenge which will cover programming LEGO Mindstorm® robots and introduce the 2018 4-H LEGO Robotics Challenge.  The second track will cover the 4-H Robotics Engineering Challenge (REC).  The REC is a larger robotics challenge played on a 12' X 12' field with robots similar to those in the VEX and FIRST Tech Challenge.  The REC Training will introduce teams to the game and discuss various robotic and control systems used in the challenge.   More information about each of the challenges can be found at

This year we will continue to use the LEGO EV3 Expansion Set for creating the mission game pieces.  Directions will be online at the 4-H Robotics page for building the mission game pieces.  The plan is to use these sets in the future to create the game pieces.  The cost for the LEGO EV3 Expansion kit is $100, however through the Lockheed Martin and University of Maryland Extension Stem Grant we will be offering teams to be able to purchase the set for $50 if they attend the training.  You will need one kit per game board.  Time will be allotted to construct the mission pieces and review the rules for this year’s game.  We encourage each team to bring a laptop and a EV3 Mindstorm® robot that is ready to program.   We will have sessions for the Robotics Engineering Challenge to review the game and discuss robot types and control systems.  Please select either the LEGO or the REC sessions so we can get a rough number in each of the sessions.  You will be allowed to changes sessions if you desire.
