Healthy Tots, Healthy Families

The Healthy Tots, Healthy Families initiative is a comprehensive, multi-level intervention educating the preschool child, provider and parent while working to improve and change the preschool and childcare environment.  Children spend a large number of hours in the preschool setting or within the care of a childcare provider who greatly influences their food choices and physical activity behaviors.  This initiative provides nutrition education to children, parents, and staff from childcare and preschool facilities. It further focuses on improving feeding practices, increasing water consumption, providing healthy meals and snacks, and increase physical activity behaviors.  Preventing childhood obesity is critical at an early age and can have a lasting impact on the health and well-being of a child.

The following programs are utilized with this initiative:

Cooking Matters at the Store, Feeding for Healthy Eating, Fruits and Veggies: Fabulous Foods, Grow It, Try It, Like It, Healthy Cents, Market to Mealtime, Nutrition to Go!, Read for Health, and Text4HealthyTots

FSNE has also released their initiative specific impact reports for the Healthy Tots, Healthy Families Initiative. Visit the report to learn how FSNE has produced positive changes in this initative in FY19.
