Healthy School Communities

The Healthy School Communities initiative is a comprehensive, multi-level intervention that addresses the school environment to impact behavior change among children, teachers, families and other members of the school community. Nutrition education is provided to youth and adults, and the initiative focuses on facilitating wellness-promoting activities for teachers and families of enrolled children.  Classroom and school gardens, linkages to farm-to-school programs, implementation of Smarter Lunchrooms techniques in the cafeteria, and mobilizing teachers to implement healthy classroom policy changes are elements of FSNE’s multi-level work in Healthy School Communities.


The following programs are utilized with this initiative: 

Cooking Matters at the Store, Dig In!, Fruits & Veggies: Fabulous Foods!, Growing Healthy Habits, Healthy Cents,  Market to Mealtime, Nutrition to Go!, Read for Health, ReFresh, Smarter Lunchrooms, Text2BHealthyWalkWays, and Youth Gardening for Nutrition Teacher Training.
