Farm to Family

The Farm to Family initiative is a comprehensive intervention at Farmers’ Markets to increase access and affordability of fruits and vegetables, and improve SNAP participants’ efficacy to select, store, prepare and eat a variety of fruits and vegetables.  The Market to Mealtime curriculum provides an opportunity for market shoppers to interact with nutrition educators to learn about seasonal produce and encourage the purchase and consumption of local produce.  This initiative further focuses on encouraging EBT acceptance and redemption at farmers’ markets, partnering with WIC clinics to promote on-site markets with nutrition education for benefit redemption, and partnering with farmers’ markets to assist with signage to facilitate purchasing.  Promotion of farmers’ markets spans multiple FSNE initiatives. Farmers’ market programming and promotion will link to other youth in school program areas such as Farm to School and Smarter Lunchrooms, helping youth and families to connect to local food and the farmers’ market in their community.
