UME Volunteers

Thank you for your interest in becoming a University of Maryland Certified 4-H Volunteer. 


Please fill out and return the application form listed below.  Please also send the UME Reference Form to three references who have definite knowledge of your character and skills, do not list family members or Extension staff.  They will need to complete this form and send it to the Frederick County 4-H Office address listed at the end of the form or to Once received we can begin the volunteer process. 

We will not contact you until three reference forms and your application have been received.

  • Please forward the reference letter to the three references that you have listed in your application and have them send the completed form to the address or email listed above, this is a fillable PDF form.  Your application cannot be processed until your reference letters have been received by the 4-H Office.
  • Once your application, reference letters, and background check are complete you will be contacted to schedule attending a one-time online orientation training that is given by the state office once a month.  You will need both a telephone and a computer with high speed internet (no dial up).
  • After you have completed the online training and all other paperwork is complete you will be contacted to schedule a 15 to 20 minute phone interview.  
  • You will need an online profile through the 4HOnline system, instructions on how to set up your profile will be sent to you once you have completed the volunteer process and the 4-H educator has signed your file.  Online re-enrollment will need to be completed each year with the MD Code of Conduct, Publicity Release, and Annual Renewal sections completed.
