June 11: PUBLIC SPEAKING 101

Are you terrified of public speaking? Public speaking is one of the top fears of youth and adults within the U.S. It is also one of the best life skills you can gain during your time in 4-H. Participating in formal or informal public speaking experiences (including virtual experiences), events, and contests is a great way to practice this skill and be recognized for your hard work.

Join Navonne Owen, Caroline County 4-H Educator, for a discussion about public speaking. You will learn about the importance of effective communication and public speaking, the do’s and don’ts to public speaking, tips to help you prepare, specific category opportunities, and much more.

June 18: TABLE SETTINGS / MENUS

For most of us setting a table requires little thought as to where the forks, knives, spoons and plates are placed--we simply place them where we want them out of convenience and short amount of time. In this session, learn where forks, knives, spoons, and plates are placed in a formal and informal table setting for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Also, learn how to plan and create a complete menu to go with a themed table setting.

Time: 2:00 PM

We’ll also cover the basics of entering a leaf collection at your county fair. Come to the session with a few leaves from your local trees as well as white paper and crayons.
