This class is for produce growers interested in MDA Good Agricultural Practices certification and want help writing their food safety plans.
About this Event
Attending A Basic GAP Course May Be Right for You If...

• You grow fruits or vegetables and are interested in developing a good safety plan to increase operational efficiency and build a food safety culture.

• You want help writing your food safety plan.

• You are looking to learn more about how microbes live and interact with farm environments, and/or

• You have a potential buyer that requires MD GAP certification.

What You’ll Get from This Training

• Tips on how to implement practices to minimize your food safety risk during growing, harvesting, holding, and packing fresh fruits and vegetables.

• Practice conducting risk assessments.

• Practice writing Standard Operating Procedures.

• Assistance on writing your food safety plan (aiming for 80% completion!)

• A Maryland Department of Agriculture GAP training certificate.

Online Course Logistics and Registration Information

• This Basic GAP training will take place over two half day sessions, please select whichever fits your schedule from a choice of either :

(pt. I) Thursday December 3rd | (pt. II) Friday December 4th 8:15 am – 12:00 pm
(pt. I) Monday February 15th | (pt. II) Tuesday February 16th 8:15 am – 12:00 pm
• Course materials include a Basic GAP training binder and USB. When you register please enter the address you would like training binders and USB’s sent to you. Registration will close three days before the event to allow time for shipping binders.

• One day prior to training, a link will be sent to the email you provide with webinar login information.

• Following the training, a Maryland Produce Safety team member will work one on one with you to help you finish your food safety plan.

• You must attend both part one and part two of the course to receive an MDA GAP training certificate.
