Learn to Build Raised Beds for a Garden

Taught by UME Baltimore City Master Gardeners

9:30am - 12:30pm  Come prepared to get sweaty and work!

This is a hands-on learning opportunity!  The Baltimore City Master Gardener Demonstration Garden, affectionately called the "DIG," is getting ready for spring.  This year we are installing raised beds.

This workshop will be held outside the Cylburn Greenhosue Classroom in the DIG. So please dress for the weather!

If you garden in Baltimore City, or any City for that matter, raised beds are a common way to garden that increases acessibility for those who have trouble bending, and can be a solution for those who want to garden but their in-ground soil lead levels are high and risky.

According to UME's Home Garden Information Center there are many other advantages of Raised Bed gardening too:

Advantages of Raised Beds

  • Warms up quickly in spring;
  • Drains well;
  • Increases available rooting area;
  • Less compaction and erosion because you never walk in the planting area; and
  • Provides greater yields per unit area due to high fertility and increased root growth.

Join us on April 21st at 9:30am and let's build and learn together!
