Event Type:

Maryland was once covered by Eastern Deciduous Forest, one of the most biologically diverse biomes. As permanent clear-cuts were carved out of it, 0ur society grew and prospered and our region has experienced what is called habitat fragmentation This has caused the dwindling, even extinction, of important plants and animals. Worse, we as a society have lost touch with what it means to live in a forest. We’ve even lost the memory that there was once a forest here.

Today the vast majority of Maryland’s woodland owners have fewer than ten acres. No matter the size of our lot, be it in town or the country, we are the stewards upon whom the future of our children, forests and clean water depends.
