Cecil County 4-H Meat Goat Project Requirements

4-H Member & Project Enrollment

  • Cecil County & Maryland State Fair’s 4-H Member Project Enrollment Deadline is May 1st of the current year entered in 4-H Online
  • 4-H members are expected to regularly attend club meetings 


Registration papers/lease must be in the individual 4-Hers name only! 

  • Cecil County Fair Ownership deadline June 1st of current year (Registration paper received by breed association)
  • Maryland State Fair Ownership deadline July 1st of current year (Registration paper received by breed association)
  • Commercial Breeding Sheep Ownership deadline June 1st of current year (Must be tagged & Completed Maryland Livestock registration received in 4-H Extension Office)
  • 4-H Meat Goat Lease annual deadline June 1st of current year
  • Breeding Meat goats can be owned or leased but not both


  • Cecil County Fair Market Animal Ownership deadline May 15th of current year
  • All meat goats tagged for market must be tagged & weighed on either May 14 or 15, 2020 from 6-8 PM at Fair Hill
  • All youth/parent must also fill out and sign the Livestock Registration Form and submit by May 15th 
  • Market goats must be owned 
  • All meat goats tagged for market must be born after September 1st of the previous year and must be castrated at the time of tagging

Completed Maryland 4-H Animal Husbandry & Quality Assurance Program by July 1st of current year if 1st year in project or if 4-H age 8, 11 or 14 as of 1/1 of current year

  • Juniors-Junior Program
  • Intermediates & Seniors-Part 1 and specific project species (Please make sure that you are logged in)

4-H Show Entry Deadlines:

  • Eastern Shore Spring Show Deadline-April 15th of current year
  • Cecil County Breeders’ Fair Deadline-May 1st of current year
  • Cecil County Fair Entry Deadline-July 1st of current year (online only)
  • Cecil County Fair 4-H Animal Exhibitor Orientation and Livestock Sale Meeting, June 3rd or June 8th, 2020.  Youth and a parent/guardian must attend if animal project stays entire week of fair.
  • Cecil County Fair Animal Setup, July 21, 2020
  • Maryland State Fair Entry Deadline-July 31st of current year (online only)

  • All goats are required to have a certificate of veterinary inspection prior to show
  • Detailed information about the requirements can be found online at:
  • All exhibitors must inspect their animal(s) for signs of contagious or infectious disease before coming to a show in the state of Maryland including out of state exhibitors. A "Self Certification of Animal Health" must be completed prior to loading animals for exhibition.
