Upcoming Opportunities

The Agriculture and Food Systems program is exploring development of two potential student internship programs. The first program would offer selected students a hands-on summer experiential learning experience. The second is urban agriculture student internships that would serve Baltimore and the Washington, D.C. metro areas.

Both programs would provide students the opportunity to conduct applied research, and develop and present research-based educational programs under the guidance of University of Maryland Agriculture and Food Systems Extension educators. Students will receive a stipend for the 10-week internship, which is expected to align with the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources Strategic Initiatives, focusing on the Agriculture Careers and Entrepreneurship work of the Agriculture Production Systems Initiative.

Additional Opportunities

Extension also supports other internship opportunities for students from other colleges and degree programs in Extension communications. Students work closely with the program administrator, faculty, and communications staff to develop science communication skills including strategic planning, scientific writing, and public and media outreach on digital platforms. Contact Laura Wormuth at for more information on these internship opportunities.
