True armyworms and various cutworms may damage small plants during early spring and reduce the yield of the first cutting. Infestations of fall armyworms and earworms are more likely to occur in late summer to early fall. These caterpillars are more difficult to control. Seedling stands suffer the most damage. Treatment is suggested when there are two or more larvae per square foot in seedling fields or five or more larvae per square foot in established fields.
