2018 Master Gardener Basic Training Class

The 2018 Master Gardener Basic Training Class will start Monday, March 5, 2018 from 6pm till 9pm every Monday and Wednesday until Wednesday, May 16, 2018.  

The cost of the class is $300 for Prince George’s County residents and $400 for non county residents until January 31st.  

Costs includes the revised Master Gardeners Handbook, multiple handouts and booklets, and other administrative costs. 

Non County residents are admitted on space availability.  All volunteer work is done in Prince George’s County.

Interns do 40 hours of voluntary service their first year and include the following required hours for certification:

 Clinton Demonstration Gardens (Required 4 hours)

  • Plant clinics at Farmers Markets (Required  4 hours)
  • Riverdale historic museum gardens Required 2 hours)
  • Youth gardening  (Req.  2 Hours)
  • Prince George’s County fairs (Req. 2 hours)
  • Garden Library Lecture series  (Required 2 Hours)
  • Administrative work  (Required 2 hours)
  • Grow It Eat It (Req. 2 hours)
  • Bay-Wise Activities (Req. 2 hours)
  • Attend at least 6 monthly meetings (Required)

Master Gardener volunteers in their second year and thereafter will do 20 hours of voluntary service and 10 hours of education to maintain their certification.
