A Childcare Provider Training, offered by the University of Maryland Extension Family & Consumer Sciences team, is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 5, 2022 at 1114 Shawan Rd. in Cockeysville, Md.

The training includes six Core-of-Knowledge hours with full training attendance in child development, professionalism, nutrition, and health and safety. Registration is open now at go.umd.edu/Childcareprovider2022 and the cost is $25, which includes lunch.

8:30 -10:00 AM -- Alexander Chan, Ph.D, LMFT
Attachment Theory - Implications for Stress Management in Children
Attachment theory is one of the most useful ways for interpreting and responding to children’s behavior. This session will focus on explaining the theory and using it to effectively respond to children’s needs.

10:10 - 11:40 AM -- Terry Serio, MA
Feeding for Healthy Eating - Snap Ed Peer Reviewed Curriculum
Children learn best when they are well nourished and secure. This session will provide the knowledge to feed children well balanced meals and snacks and encourage them to make healthier choices.

Safe Gardening - A School Garden Workshop
The dialogue-based learning and hands-on approach teaches consumers important but less common behaviors focused on clean
(versus sanitize), separate (not washing raw poultry), cook (calibrating a food thermometer), and chill (refrigerator temperatures), while reviewing core behaviors.

1:50 PM - 3:20 PM -- Dorothy Nuckols, MPH, AFC
The Struggle is Real - Dealing with Financial Stress
Financial stress can interfere with health, wellbeing, jobs, and day-to-day living. This session will be split in half and will cover: (1) managing health insurance to protect your finances and your health, and (2) managing credit and debt to reach financial goals.
