MidAtlantic Women In Agriculture Holds 14th Annual Conference

14th Annual Women In Agriculture Conference held in Dover, DE

MidAtlantic Women in Agriculture strives to Educate, Engage and Empower women across all areas of agriculture.  So on February 13 in Dover Delaware, 181 women from across Maryland, Delaware, Virginia and New Jersey came together for a full day conference that focused on agriculture.  Jennifer Schmidt, Maryland Farmer and Registered Dietitian kicked off the day as the keynote speaker.  Since weather is such an important topic in farmers’ lives, Justin Berk, Meteorologist, shared thoughts and trends on recent weather events during the luncheon hour.  The day concluded with Kate Ziehm, President of Morning Ag Clips, providing motivation to all women and challenging the participants to go out and apply what they had learned to change the world around them.  The conference offered 16 different breakout sessions covering such topics as digital photography, soil health, miniature gardens and estate planning allowing women to tailor their learning experience.    “It was awesome!! Great speakers with wonderful educational materials to take back and use on our farms!! Looking forward to next year!” one participant stated after the event.  To further engage participants, various social media platforms were used throughout the day including Facebook (/MidAtlanticWomenInAgriculture), Twitter @MidAtlanticWIA, and Instagram @MidAtlanticWIA

MidAtlantic Regional Women In Agriculture Conference is unique in that fact that it also offers a preconference where two separate topics in agriculture are discussed in a four hour concentrated format with case studies and local experts sharing their topic knowledge.  The preconference topics to choose from for this year were Agritourism or Agriculture Law.

This is the 14th year for this conference.  MidAtlantic Women in Agriculture is offered through a partnership with University of Maryland Extension, University of Delaware Extension, Delaware State University, Rutgers University and Virginia Tech.  A big thank you to our sponsors and table vendors for the event including our platinum sponsor MidAtlantic Farm Credit.  To find out more information about MidAtlantic Women In Agriculture, please visit their website at www.extension.umd.edu/womeninag
