Join Maryland 4-H State Council- Applications Due Dec 15

The Maryland 4-H State Council is now accepting applications for all committees and Officer positions. This is an open application to all senior 4-H'ers (14-18) with two years of 4-H experience preferred.

We are looking for young people who are interested in building a statewide team and have a passion for building 4-H in Maryland.

There are seven officer positions available including President (open to second year members only), Secretary, and five Vice President positions. These Vice Presidents will provide leadership to the five committees that will direct the work of the Council. First time applicants are encouraged to apply for Officer positions if they have the interest.

- Planning and Outreach: Will work to organize statewide events for teens such as Teen Focus, as well as provide leadership for the teen track at events like the Volunteer Forum. This group will also work toward providing education on leadership for other 4-H groups.

- Service: Will work to initiative statewide and regional service opportunities that are meaningful. This focus on service will be the main event for 4-H Week in October as well as National Days of Service.

- Finance: Will work to keep the budget of the Council, raise money to support the work of the Council, and to provide scholarships for Council Members to attend events.

- Public Issues: This group will define an issue faced by teens in Maryland and focus it's work on becoming a community leader in that area. This group will host regional and statewide forums that bring together local agencies, local student groups, and facilitate discussions on how to make a difference for other youth.

- Public Relations: Will work to provide quarterly updates to counties on the work of the Council, maintaining the Council's social media, and helping us be better advocates and voices for Maryland 4-H.

As you can see, we have LOTS of great work to do and are looking for any 4-H member who is looking to give back to this program!  There's a lot of excitement around this new structure that was developed by a small group in October and approved by Maryland 4-H'ers at the Northeast Regional Volunteer Forum. There is no county nomination needed, the application process is open. If you have any questions please email Alisha Targonski at alishat@umd.edu.
