Ecosystem Services on Forest and Agricultural Lands of Maryland: A Survey of Maryland Tree Farmers and Agricultural Landowners

Wednesday, Mar. 11, 2015 - 12:00pm to 1:00pm
Event Type:
Prof. Bob Tjaden, Environmental Science & Technology, University of Maryland, College Park

This webinar will focus on the finding of Prof. Tjaden's socio-economic research study completed in 2013. It assessed the knowledge of forest landowners and commodity farmers on ecosystem services, and their willingness to participate in a payment for ecosystem service program.  The objectives of this project were to determine whether Tree Farmers and agricultural landowners are knowledgeable about ecosystem services; what Tree Farmers and agricultural landowners think about participation in a payment for ecosystem services (PES) program; how demographics and geographic characteristic affect willingness to participate in a PES program; how financial payments, contract lengths, and the agency administering a PES program affect participation; and whether there are significant differences in the survey responses of Tree Farmers and agricultural landowners.
