Maryland 4-H Lego Robotics Challenge

4-H teams of 3 to 8 members will have from now until either their county contest or the Maryland State Fair to build a Lego Mindstorm robot that will autonomously complete seven renewable alternative energy tasks in 2 minutes and 30 seconds.  Robots will need to erect a windmill, install a hydro dam turbine, harvest corn and trees and deliver to an alternative energy power plant, covert a farm tractor to bio-diesel, install a solar panel on a house and clean up coal from the old power plant.  In addition to building the robot, teams will do a 10 minute presentation on how they built their robot and the strategy they used to complete as many tasks as possible.  Teams will also be researching renewable alternative energy and conducting a service project to promote renewable alternative energy.  Teams will present their research and their community service project at county contests and the Maryland State Fair. 
To register a team for the Maryland 4-H Lego Robotic Challenge teams should register through their county office by completing the registration form.  Robotics is a great way to introduce traditional 4-H members to a new project area or to introduce young people interested in robotics to 4-H.
