Field Trip: Wentworth Nursery (Charlotte Hall)

Class Description
This class will cover approximately 45 flowering shrubs. We will go over identifying characteristics, distinguish between confusing look-alikes, and discuss cultural requirements and use in the landscape.

Flowering plants are among our most beautiful and interesting landscape plants! Join us as we learn about itea, kerria, crape myrtle, mahonia, spirea, viburnums--and so much more!

This class will count as 9 continuing education hours and also towards the Woody Plants certificate.

Instructor
Ms. Wanda MacLachlan is a Senior Agent & Area Extension Educator, Agriculture & Natural Resources.  She is also the Bay-Wise Program Coordinator and Master Naturalist Program Coordinator.  Ms. MacLachlan works in the area of landscape management focusing on residential environmental and water quality issues. She works with urban, suburban and rural homeowners statewide. Her ultimate goal is to have citizens reduce the amount of nitrogen, phosphorus and pesticides they contribute to their local streams, rivers and eventually, the Chesapeake Bay.

She has been with Extension since 1984, starting in Baltimore City as the urban agriculture agent. In 1992, during budget cuts, she was transferred to Montgomery County where she worked as the commercial horticulture agent. In 1995, she switched over to become the Bay-Wise Program Coordinator and in 2008 took on the added role of Master Naturalist Program Coordinator.
