Solar for Farmers Information Workshop

Environmentally friendly electrical energy at a fair price. Clean Engen offers a solution to save on electricity cost without taking on additional debt burden. Poultry farm families will be able to enter into the Clean Engen lease for no money down, and save on their electric bills on day one, and for the next 30 years.

Mock Livestock Show
It’s time to get ready for the livestock show season! Come join us Saturday, May 19, 2012, at 10 am for a day devoted to getting ready for the show season at the Somerset County Fairgrounds in Princess Anne. Topics will include:
•Choosing show animals
•Keeping livestock healthy
•Feeding livestock
•Grooming show animals
Showmanship4-H members and 4-H club leaders will be on hand to share knowledge with participants. Participants may bring their own animals if they have had a health check by a veterinarian. Procrastinator Pesticide Recertification
Did you miss the last pesticide recertification class? There will be a Procrastinators Pesticide Re-Certification. It will be held June 1, 2012 from 8:00am to 4:30pm at the Wye Research and Education Center. It will provide 8 hours of pesticide recertification for the State of Maryland. Lunch will be provided. Being held at the Centre at Salisbury on June 15-16, 2012. There will be lots of activities and food to enjoy. Free admission & free parking. Be sure to bring the whole family!

Wicomico County is an area rich with colonial and post revolutionary American history. Agriculture has played a big role in the development of the county. Having been voted as one of "America's 100 Best Communities for Young Children," the county is home the the annual children's farm tour held at Beechnut Farm, a Century Farm that is the only dairy farm operating in the county. Wicomico flourishes with agriculture production. Mainstay agriculture production includes grain crops of soybeans, corn, and wheat, vegetables, forage, and even dairy. Wicomico county ranks #4 in the state for both commercial broiler (poultry) and vegetable production. There is also a strong equine community within the county that includes over 2200 horses. The use of Maryland's natural resources is a must for farmers. Farmers take great strides to maintain the health of the land will be avaiable for future generations.
In addition to the strong agriculture community, Wicomico County is home to a variety of wildlife. Supported by many natural resources, the county has a diverse wildlife population found in various habitats - woodland, marsh, rivers, etc. Being a common destination for both locals and outdoor enthusiasts, the Wicomico River and Nanticoke River are popular destinations for fishing and water recreation activities. Throughout the county, there are many public lands that are avaliable for public access to enjoy the outdoors and hunting activities. Wicomico County is also home to both the Salisbury Zoo and the Ward Museum, located in the city of Salisbury.
