Our veggies are growing fast thanks to lots of rain and TLC. Our Master Gardener volunteers tied up rambunctious tomatoes, cucumbers and cantaloupe and pinched suckers on some of the tomatoes. We harvested broccoli, beets, lettuce, kale and our first cucumbers. The corn in the lasagna garden is getting high and the herbs are spilling from their container. Kids from the 4-H Adventure in Agriculture day camp visited the garden and snacked on sweet fresh peas while they learned some of the basics of growing vegetables. Please stop by and visit our garden to see what's growing this week.

Our goal is to teach you safe, effective ways to garden and manage your landscape that promote healthier gardens and communities. Our recommendations are based on University of Maryland research and guidelines.
We also offer educational talks on gardening topics. Our speakers visit garden clubs, social and civic groups and businesses to talk about everything from winterizing the garden to gardening with arthritis. We host classes, too, that can teach you how to prune trees, create a backyard wildlife habitat or attract birds to your garden.
Our Master Gardeners are an enthusiastic group of volunteers who love to share their gardening passion and know-how. They create and revitalize gardens, teach kids how to garden, give talks and offer plant clinics at local events. They benefit from 40 hours of formal training by University of Maryland educators plus stimulating, ongoing learning opportunities.
