Guided Pasture Walk

Misty Meadows Farm
August 25, 2011 -  10:00 a.m.

14230 Misty Meadow Road
Smithsburg, MD 21783

Come spend the morning on this dairy farm in Ringgold where four generations work side by side, ok the fourth generation probably does more playing. Misty-Meadow Farm converted crop land into improved pasture in order to reduce feed costs and improve cow health. Join the Herbst Family for some time looking at strategies on how dairymen can manage their land resources in order to reduce input costs without severely sacrificing production while enhancing environmental stewardship. These common sense approaches include managing both cows and heifers on sustainable pasture systems. Included will be discussion and observation of best management practices implemented utilizing Farm Bill cost share programs such as EQUIP and a Conversion Grant Program sponsored by University of Maryland Extension, Washington County Soil Conservation District and Maryland Department of Agriculture.
