4-H Youth Development

4-H is a national organization involved in providing an innovative curriculum that meets the needs of our youth population. 4-H involves youth in self-determined, hands-on learning activities such as workforce skills, citizenship, communications and many other educational projects. Youth are encouraged to participate in a wide variety of age-appropriate projects and activities...with the 4-H Clover program for ages 5-7 and the traditional 4-H program for ages 8-18. Somerset County's 4-H has much to offer. 4-H is for everyone! The 4-H Youth Development program is a recognized leader for educating and helping youth to become competent, caring responsible individuals. The program achieves these goals by:

addressing present and emerging youth needs
employing a proactive program approach
using a focused, experimental designed, age-appropriate curriculum
work collaboratively with established networks of human and financial resources
having diverse programs, audiences, staff, and delivery techniques.

The primary objective of 4-H is the development of the young person. The Somerset County 4-H Youth Development program provides a supportive setting for all youth to reach their fullest potential. Youth learn beneficial, cognitive and life skills through community-focused, research-based, educational programs. 4-H members "learn by doing" through numerous 4-H projects. Projects are designed to enable individuals to progress at their own pace through learning experiences that develop life skills and subject matter competencies. With the guidance of parents, volunteers, or teen leaders, knowledge is applied to practical life experiences. The project is the teaching tool.
