4-H Youth Development

4H CloverThe 4-H Youth Development Program is University of Maryland Cooperative Extension for Prince George's County.  It is an educational outreach program of the land grand university in partnerships with federal and county governments and private sector support.  The program combines the cooperative efforts of youth, and volunteer leaders in special interest groups, camping or organized club settings.

 

A 4-H club offers experiences to practice skills in subject matter, teamwork, leadership and citizenship.  Subject matter skills comes through project work in small groups, at the club meeting or at home.  Teamwork is learned through planning and implementing activities such as community service or fundraising projects.  Leadership and citizenship skills are learned through serving as an officer or committee members.  The club is a continuous experience for a 4-Her.

Through hands on experiences, youth in 4-H can pick from many 4-H related projects and activities.  4-H members and adult volunteer leaders share fun, yet educational, learning experiences together.  4-H opens up new and exciting opportunites for both youth to:

Vounteer leadership is the backbone of our organization!  To provide youth with a wealth of learning experiences, several partners have collaborated with the schools and community centers to offer this program.  Adult volunteers are encouraged to participate as an equal in this vital program.
